There are a grand total of thirteen recruitable characters in Star Ocean The Second Story R. Two of these are the starter characters, Claude and Rena. There are two characters that are limited to which route you choose to follow. Dias is only available if your main character is Rena, and Leon only available if you choose Claude as your avatar.

Back when the original The Second Story came out, most who played it recommended the Three-Fighter plus Rena party composition. It looks like is still a pretty good way to go; three melee characters along with someone with healing powers is also a great way to build for taking down even the most challenging bosses.Claudeis the strongest fighter in the game, withChisatoin close second. I like to add eitherRena or Operato the party, then any fighter as the fourth. My personal favorite party isClaude, Chisato, Rena, and Ashton.
