It’s not a large leap per level, as you get1 more damage for each 3 Mastery levels. This means that at maximum mastery (600), you will do 200 extra damage, which is worthwhile.

Mastery levels are important as they unlock new abilities and move sets for your Devil Fruits, increasing your range of combat skills. To gain experience with a particular Devil Fruit, you’ll need to use it, so prepare for some grinding. But it’s worth it for the extra damage and moves!
