Dragon’s Dogma 2 just launched today and is receiving a myriad of criticism and backlash from fans due to microtransactions. Microtransactions are generally frowned upon by the gaming community unless reasonably implemented. In the case of Capcom, they deliberately listed a bunch of supposed “pay-to-win” items on the store page at the exact time of release, catching many players off-guard.
Capcom’s microtransactions for the sequel are essentially a deconstructed “booster pack” for players. You can purchase Camping Kits, Rift Incense, gifts, a character editor, resurrection, fast travel points, and Rift Crystals to give you a head start compared to other non-paying players. Capcom didreiteratethat all of these items can be acquired in-game, meaning players can farm for them once they progress through Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Purchasing all of these microtransactions will cost $41.79 USD, or more than half the base game’s cost. This was met with an outcry from players, who expressed their anger by leaving a ton of Not Recommended Reviews onDragon’s Dogma 2’s Steam Page. A Steam user specifically spoke about having to pay $1.99 USD to edit your character after already spending about $70 USD on the base game, which baffled their minds. Some players even pointed out Capcom’s practices and labeled them as Anti-Consumer.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s microtransactions are only half of the problem
Players are also complaining about poor performance, crashes, and no option to delete a save file in Dragon’s Dogma 2. A few dedicated fans even stated how they massacred Dragon’s Dogma, as this was a far cry compared to their experience with the prequel.
Despite all the backlash Dragon’s Dogma 2 is receiving, Capcom is looking into potential fixes for the game’s poor performance and crashes and will update the game in the near future. In the meantime, you can alleviate the game’s poor performance bytweaking a few in-game settings, but don’t expect it to be a miraculous leap from your base FPS.
