If you enter the gaol to find the Caged Magistrate in Dragon’s Dogma 2, guards will attack you on sight. This isn’t a bug, like many players thought, but rather a reasonable behavior from a guard who sees a stranger wandering about in a prison. If so, how can you stop it?
How to stealth past the guards in Vernworth’s prison in Dragon’s Dogma 2
This quest has struck confusion since it begins with a guard at the entrance of the gaol saying he was expecting you and you are allowed to come in. But we are to understand that only this guard had been instructed by captain Brant, and all the others are unaware of who you are.
In case you get attacked, there’s nothing stopping you from fighting back and killing the guards, but if you were to survive the fight and leave, from now on, you would probably be seen as a criminal by most NPCs in town. This will lock you out of dialogues and have other guards attack you when you are out on the street. The best way to avoid this is to stealth past the guards in the first place.
Remember tosleep at an inn before attempting a difficult quest, as you may always go back to that safe point should things go dire.
Once inside theprison, you can walk behind the guards or wait until they are out of sight to move through the dungeon in peace, butthe easiest way is to disguise yourself as a guard. To do this, you need a set of guard armor calledThe Marcher Armor.

You can buy the armor at Philbert’s Sundries (to the left of Bjorn’s Armory), or you can get it for free during the quest Disa’s Plot if you go to the castle at night and loot a chest in the guardhouse (shown in image).
Wearing those, guards won’t attack youduring either of the quests that have you infiltrating Vernworth Castle.
