At the start of Enshrouded, your character has very limited space in their backpack. Since items dropped disappear and cannot be picked up again, it is important to find a way to expand the inventory as soon as possible.

How to get a Backpack Expansion in Enshrouded

The first extension to your inventory available is the Small Backpack. This can be crafted one you have saved The Hunter (she is one of the NPCs trapped in Ancient Vaults, like the Blacksmith). Head to her location, where you will have to fight a few enemies, and once you’ve awoken her from her sleep, you can summon her at your camp using the Summoning Staff.

To craft a Small Backpack you will need3 pieces of Torn Cloth, 5 pieces of String and 4 pieces of Dried Fur. Although Dried Fur can sometimes be looted out in the world, you will need bigger amounts if you also want to craft Scout armour and weapons. Build a Drying Rack (at The Hunter’s crafting menu) andcombine Animal Fur with Salt to obtain Dried Fur.

Once you’ve crafted the Small Backpack, you still have to equip it on your Backpack Extension slot from your Character menu. You’ll be able to craft bigger expansions pack further ahead and replace them as you see fit.

Where to find Salt in Enshrouded

At the early levels of the game, there are two Salt mines accesible. If you speak with The Hunter, she will point out at the first Salt Mine location to the North West of Harvest Homestead (as shown in the image above).

The mine is located at the edge of the shroud so be careful not to overstay. You could approach it coming from the shroud, but the enemies in this area are level 5 and above, so if you still aren’t strong to fight them you can also come to the mine from the south, crossing Harvest Homestead, and going around Woodgard.

ensure to have plenty of space in your inventory so you don’t have to come back here every time you need salt. There is no need to go down into the bottom part of the mine which is immersed in the shroud; you can mine with the pickaxe inside the small caves on the uppermost level, which are right where the shroud ends (see image above).

The second salt mine near the start area is the Saline Quarry east from where you first spawn in the world (see image below). To mine this one, however, you will have to get inside the shroud, which is more inconvenient.
