When you get to Chapter Three in MH now you’ll unlock the last of the initial six weapon types available at launch. While there are different versions of each weapon you can upgrade, they all work in the same way within each weapon type.

My advice is topick two weapon typesearly on that work in a similar way. This way you can work on crafting up two weapon types for thedifferent monster weaknessesso that you always have a good choice to gain an advantage. This is because it can be hard to only upgrade one weapon type as they often use the same materials. Later you can max out all the weapons of one type to truly specialise.

S-Tier weapons - Monster Hunter Now
Sword and Shield
It’s unusual for the first weapon type you get in a game to be one of the best but that’s certainly the case with the classic Sword and Shield combo. While each attack is quite weak they’re alsoincredibly quick, meaning you can strike and move better than you can with any other weapon. Better still you can alsoblock attacks, allowing you to instead stay up close and personal and end fights fast.
Great Sword
The Great Sword is at the complete other end of the spectrum from the sword and shield, being one of the slower weapons in the game. However,each individual strike does massive damagemeaning you can quickly take down small monsters with a single hit. You can deal even moreridiculous damage with your special, which simply needs you to long-press and release. This becomes simple once you get your timing down and wins come quickly, even versus the toughest bosses.
A-Tier Weapons - MH Now
Light Bowgun
The weapon of choice if you want to operate from a distance. Bowguns are thebest style of ranged weaponsin Monster Hunter Now, offering a wide range of special attacks and dealing out some strong hits.
Longsword
While I prefer the Great Sword over the Lonsword, this is still a great weapon. It will appeal to players who like tobuild up a damage gauge to land huge attacks. The downside is that if you take a hit the gauge will empty, so you’ll need to build it up again.
B-Tier Weapons
Hammer
The Hammer just feels a littlemore ponderous than the Greatswordto me, while not offering enough in return to make up for it. Not a bad weapon if you’re happy with slow strong attacks, but I’d never pick it over a good sword.
C-Tier Weapons
Bow
Bothslow and weak, the only real upside to the Bow is if you want to specialize in a particular damage Coating. But if you want specialized ammo, you’re better off with a Bowgun.
