While you might think you’re a lockpicking master in Wartales, some chests you find will always be beyond even the best of us. Read on to find out all the locations of those elusive Ornate Keys in Wartales which can stop you from getting to some awesome loot.
Wartales Missing Ornate Keys locations
If you’re missing an Ornate Key in Wartales, fear not. There are three Ornate Keys in the first couple of regions in the game, and you will need them to open three specific chests in those same regions. The first is atTiltren Lumbermill in Tiltren County, the second is inWilburt’s Sheepfold in TiltrenCounty, and the third you’ll get from theSentinel Tower in Vertruse Province.
If you miss, or misplace, any of these keys, don’t worry. There are alsoOrnate Keys to find later in the game. I’ve detailed their locations below.

Wartales - Tiltren Lumbermill Ornate Key location
Tiltren Lumbermillis just a short walk northwest of Tiltren County’s main town, Stromkapp. As with many locations in Wartales, you carefully scan the location with your mouse to find all the secrets. First, sweep across the upstairs area ofthe barn, and you’ll find aChest. Open this to find your firstOrnate Key.
You can choose to immediately use this key toopen the trapdoorin the same barn. This gives you access to a cellar where you’ll find a couple of enslaved prisoners and a few nice items. However, when you go back upstairs and leave the lumber mill, theowner will immediately attack you. I found this to be a pretty tough fight, so you might want to wait until you’re at least level two across the board before you tackle it.
Wartales - Tiltren Old Wilburt’s Sheepfold Ornate Key location
Head toOld Wilburt’s Sheepfoldsouth of Stromkapp. The Ornate Key is in the chest with the spear. This makes up for the fact that the Country of Arthes doesn’t have an Ornate Key.
Wartales - Vertruse Province Ornate Key location
You’ll need to have a battle inVertruse Province,too, if you want to get anotherOrnate Key. The region is full of level four to six enemies, but unlike the Tiltren Lumbermill one, I didn’t find this battle overly difficult. However, it is deep into theVertruse region, right in the southwest atSentinel Tower(1).

You’ll first have to battle someBandits. Once defeated, you’ll find they were keeping a man captive. It turns out he is a fisherman and is so thankful he gives you his prized possession. You guessed it, an Ornate Key. He also suggests you visit him sometime at Mermant’s Fishery, which unfortunately happens to be in the northeast of Vertruse Province.
When you get there, speak to him again, and he’ll allude toa Chest the key will open. You’ll need to head to thefishing spotjust north of the Fishery to find it (2). The Ornate Key can be used to open the chest you find there.
Ludern, Grinmere, and Drombach County Ornate Key Locations - Wartales
There are also some Ornate Keys available later in the game.
