While swimming around Fontaine’s underwater region, you might encounter eight little Otters who have been trapped inside various obstacles in the deep sea.
By helping the friendly sea animals, they’ll reward you with Common Chests and a Precious Chest, and you’ll unlock a legendary place where eight Otters gather to play. It’s my favorite place in all of Teyvat—and I highly recommend unlocking it for days when you need to destress.
All Otter locations in Genshin Impact & how to rescue them
Reference the image above for a quick overview of all seven locations where you’ll find a total of eight Otters. You can save them in any order, but I placed numbers to align with the order in this guide. Don’t forget that there’s a final destination you can visit for an additional reward.
Otter #1
To find the first Otter, head to the area circled in the image above, east of the Elton Trench. Once there,absorb the Xenochromatic Armored Crab’s abilityand use it todestroy the Bullet Barnacle. Doing so will free the little Otter trapped inside.
Follow the Otter until it stops and summons aCommon Chest. Don’t forget to loot it for rewards! You’ll be following the same pattern across all the Otter rescue missions: free it from an obstacle, then follow it for a Chest reward.

Otter #2
To find the second Otter, head to the area circled in the image above, located vertically between the Chemin de L’Espoir and Elton Trench. Like the first puzzle, use theXenochromatic Armored Crab’s Abilitytodestroy the Bullet Barnacle. Doing so will free the Otter, which you should follow to receive aCommon Chestreward.
Otter #3
To find the next Otter, head to the area circled in the image above, also south of the Chemin de L’Espoir and northeast of the second Otter’s location. Its exact location is circled in the image above. When you get there, you’ll find the terrified little Otter being held hostage by the Clockwork Meka. Useunderwater abilitiestodefeat the enemy, which will free the Otter, then follow it to get aCommon Chestreward.
If you’re having trouble defeating the Clockwork Meka, then I recommend absorbing a neaby Xenochromatic creature’s ability to help defeat it faster.
Otter #4
The fourth Otter is tricky to find, so I’ll walk you through the exact path to find it. There are two paths you can take. First, you can head to the Teleport Waypoint in the Chemin de L’Espoir and swim northward to the area circled in the image above.
Once you’re there, you’ll find a large tunnel leading deeper downward.Swim downwarduntil you find the trapped Otter (see the next few screenshots for what it looks like).
Alternatively, you’re able to head to theTeleport Waypoint south of Annapausis. The area will only be available if you’ve completedThe Narzissenkreuz Adventurequest chain. Once you’ve teleported, enter the building beside the Teleport Waypoint and follow the path forward.
At the end of the tunnel, you’ll find a blue “barrier,” but you can freely cross it without solving any puzzle.Cross the “barrier” to enter the underwater areaat the other side. As soon as you’re in the underwater area,swim upward. Keep swimming upward until you spot the Blubberbeast, which is swimming close to the trapped Otter.
You’ll find the Otter curled up in the broken building (circled above). However, there’s a barrier surrounding the broken area. So to enter, you need toswim from the left side, where the arrow is pointing in the image above.
As soon as you enter, you’ll find a blue lamp beside the Otter.Attack the blue lamp so that it turns orange, which will free the Otter and complete the objective. Don’t forget to follow the Otter to get yourCommon Chestreward.

To find the next Otter, head to the area circled in thge image above. Keep it mind that it’s underwater, so don’t use the Teleport Waypoint in the Institute of Natural Philosophy. When you get there, you’ll find two Otters: one trapped in a cage and one waiting outside.Open the doorto free the Otter, then follow it to get aCommon Chestreward.

Next, head to the area circled in the image above, south of the Thalatta Submarine Canyon. You’ll find a little Otter trapped inside Fontemer Seagrass.Absorb the Xenochromatic Hunter Ray’s ability(you may find one swimming nearby) andcut the Seagrassto free the Otter. Once freed, follow the Otter to receive aCommon Chest.
Otter #7
The last Otter is located even further south of the Thalatta Submarine Canyon. Its exact location is circled in the image above. I recommend referring to the Blubbearbeast as a landmark to ensure you’re in the right position. When you get there,destroy the Crate to free the Otter, then follow it to get yourCommon Chestreward.
Where to find Otters in Genshin Impact (Precious Chest)
After rescuing all of the Otters, head to the area circled in the image above to find all the Otters you saved happily playing. They’ll reward you with aPrecious Chestas thank you for helping them return to their favorite place to play. you’re able to also keep returning to the area to say hi to the little friends!
